Job Ad & Profile Description

Position : Associate Operations Officer

The Associate Operations Officer will support the development and implementation of MAS AS client projects in Ethiopia and selectively in East Africa. Under the supervision and guidance of an Advisory Services Project Lead, the Associate Operations Officer will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the execution of existing client projects by (a) regularly monitoring the project’s financial situation (b) efficient procurement of consultant services and (c) providing monitoring and reporting information to ensure the delivery of results in accordance with the approved project business and M&E targets
  • Managing relationships with project stakeholders, clients, partners, beneficiaries, etc.
  • Following up on agreed actions with specific clients where needed or requested by project leads
  • Conducting analytical work on key industry sectors and leading private sector firms in order to develop a pipeline of IFC advisory and investment clients.
  • Assist with initial due diligence on prospective clients;
  • Undertake periodic survey of existing service providers
  • Preparing project supervision and donor reports,​​​​​​​ including M&E reports and the required back-up data which confirms the​​​​​​​ reported results and achievements

Facilitating coordination with other IFC teams:

Advisory colleagues, investment officers, E&S specialists, country officers, communications officers and IBRD colleagues and others

Supporting business development which includes:

  • Identifying clients and their needs and helping prepare pitches and other background material
  • Contributing substantively to knowledge management for internal and external audiences
  • Serving as an integral part of the MAS advisory team and support Project Leads as needed providing them with advice, implementation​​​​​​​ support, and assistance with project implementation management.

Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to the World Bank Group and IFC's mission, strategy and values
  • A Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance, business administration, economics or a relevant technical field (e.g. agriculture, health etc).
  • A minimum of 5 years of private sector operational experience in one or more of agribusiness, manufacturing, health or education in​​​​​​​ Ethiopia.
  • Proven track record in nurturing client relationships,​​​​​​​ resolving challenging issues and ability to deal sensitively in multi-cultural​​​​​​​ environments
  • Demonstrated ability to understand what makes businesses succeed, develop​​​​​​​ innovative solutions and challenge the status to build the business
  • Recognized as a team player and collaborator
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Ability to develop relationships with government, media, donors, and other stakeholders
  • Sound business judgment, demonstrated ability to deliver results under tight​​​​​​​ timetables
  • Strong organizational, administrative, project and task management skills
